Mexico topped the Central American and Caribbean Games medal table, world records fell at the World U20 Athletics Championships, and a Dutch cyclist conquered the Tour de France Femmes.

The 25th Central American and Caribbean Games came to a close in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. Mexico dominated the event, finishing top of the medal table with 167 gold, 125 silver and 115 bronze medals. Colombia came second with 91 gold, 98 silver and 77 bronze medals. Cuba took third place with 51 gold, 48 silver and 56 bronze medals. The other countries to win 10 or more gold medals were Venezuela (48), the Dominican Republic (46), Puerto Rico (34) and Guatemala (18).

During the final week of the Games, Mexico won 10 gold medals in athletics. World silver medallist Alegna González won the women's half marathon race walk. Another world silver medallist, Uziel Muñoz, won gold for Mexico in the men's shot put. However, it was Dominican Republic athletes who dominated the track and field events with 14 gold medals. Paris 2024 champion Marileidy Paulino won one of the gold medals for the host nation, triumphing in the women's 400 metres. She also helped her team win the 4x400 mixed relay event.

Other athletes to win gold medals in athletics were Cuba's Jorge Hodelin, Lázaro Martínez, Leyanis Pérez and Silinda Morales; Colombia's Flor Ruiz; and Grenada's Anderson Peters. Hodelin, the U20 world record holder, won gold in the men's long jump with a distance of 8.23 metres. Martinez and Perez triumphed in the men's and women's triple jump, respectively. Morales, the world bronze medallist, was the best in the women's discus throw.

The 2023 World silver medallist, Ruiz, threw the javelin 67.34 metres to win the women's event. Peters won the men's javelin throw. Having come straight from the Commonwealth Games, the Paris 2024 bronze medallist and former double world champion won his first Central American and Caribbean Games.
